Introducing Our Circularity Initiative

Introducing Our Circularity Initiative: A New Chapter in Environmental Sustainability

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our Circularity Initiative at Speak Up! Act Now! This new chapter marks a significant step forward in our commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible resource management.

What is Circularity?

Circularity is a transformative approach contrary to ‘take-make-waste’ which instead focuses on creating closed-loop systems where materials are continuously reused, recycled, and repurposed. Unlike traditional linear economies, circularity emphasizes reducing waste, conserving resources, and maintaining the value of products and materials for as long as possible.

Why Circularity Matters

In our rapidly changing world, embracing circularity is essential for addressing the pressing environmental challenges we face. By shifting towards a circular economy, we can:

  • Reduce Waste: Minimize the amount of waste sent to landfills and decrease the environmental impact of waste disposal.
  • Conserve Resources: Optimize the use of raw materials and energy, reducing the need for new resources.
  • Promote Innovation: Encourage creative solutions and new business models that support sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Our Circularity Initiative

Our Circularity Initiative aims to integrate these principles into our programs and educational outreach, empowering students and communities to adopt sustainable practices. Hereโ€™s how we plan to make an impact:

  1. Educational Programs: Weโ€™re incorporating circularity concepts into our curriculum and workshops, teaching students about sustainable resource management, recycling, and waste reduction. Through interactive sessions and hands-on activities, students will learn how to apply these principles in their daily lives.
  2. Content Creation: Weโ€™ve developed accessible content that explains complex topics like “linear economics” and “circularity” in simple language. This material is available for free download and has been shared with hundreds of schools nationwide to ensure widespread access and understanding.
  3. Partnerships and Collaboration: Weโ€™re collaborating with organizations like Karo Sambhav to enhance our outreach and impact. By working together, weโ€™re strengthening our efforts to promote circularity and sustainability at a larger scale.
  4. Community Engagement: Weโ€™re encouraging students to take the lead in implementing circularity practices within their communities. By creating awareness campaigns, weโ€™re providing the tools and support needed to drive meaningful change.
  5. Quality Control Circles (QCC): Our initiative includes the use of Quality Control Circles (QCC) to involve students in real-world projects that focus on sustainability. By applying the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle, students will work on projects that address local environmental challenges and contribute to a circular economy.

Get Involved

We invite you to join us in this exciting new phase of our journey. Whether youโ€™re a student, educator, or community member, there are numerous ways to get involved:

  • Educate Yourself: Explore our circularity resources and learn how you can incorporate sustainable practices into your daily life.
  • Participate: Engage in our workshops and activities designed to promote circularity and environmental stewardship.
  • Spread the Word: Share our initiative with your network and help raise awareness about the importance of circularity.
  • Support Our Efforts: Consider donating to support our programs and enable us to reach more students and communities.

Together, we can make a difference and pave the way for a more sustainable future. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to creating a world where every action contributes to a healthier planet.

Enabling Mental Wellness: A Glimpse into The Wonder Capsuleโ€™s Impact

The Wonder Capsule is more than just an English comprehension and creative writing program; it’s a platform for self-expression and mental wellness. By providing students with a safe space to explore their thoughts and emotions through writing, we enable a deeper understanding of themselves and their mental health.

One example is a studentโ€™s work that came through the program, where they shared a poem during a ‘fictional’ backstory exercise. This student’s writing revealed feelings of gloom, isolation, and internal conflict, serving as a poignant reflection of their mental state. The expression in the poem and the narrative about a character named Stellar Stanovickโ€”who encounters violence at homeโ€”highlight the underlying issues troubling the student.

Recognizing the significance of these expressions, I recommended that the school investigate further into the child’s well-being. This step ensured that the student received the necessary support, addressing potential challenges that might have gone unnoticed.

Through The Wonder Capsule, students like this one are given a voiceโ€”a way to articulate their fears, dreams, and struggles. This initiative doesn’t just teach English; it fosters mental wellness by encouraging students to share and seek help when needed.

The stories and poems written by our students are testaments to the profound impact that creative expression can have on mental health. As we continue to work with students from various backgrounds, we remain committed to using writing as a tool for healing and empowerment, ensuring that every voice is heard and supported.

Two-Year Vision Update: Speak Up! Act Now!

As I reflect on the journey of Speak Up! Act Now! over the past two years, I am filled with pride and optimism for the future. What started as a small initiative to raise awareness and empower youth has evolved into a powerful changemakers initiative.

Building on a Strong Foundation

The foundation of Speak Up! Act Now! was built on the belief that expression is liberation. Over the past two years, we have stayed true to this belief, encouraging young people to express themselves, engage in social action, and develop leadership skills. Our mission has been to create a platform where every voice can be heard, and I am proud to say that we have made significant strides toward this goal.

Empowering Youth Voices

In 2021, we won the United Nationsโ€™ School Champs for Climate Action award, which was a significant milestone for our organization. This recognition served as a catalyst for further growth and inspired us to expand our reach. In 2022, I was lauded as the โ€˜Young Messiah of Awarenessโ€™ by the United Nations. Two years later, we have impacted over 5,000 students from underserved communities through our English communication classes, helping them to express their thoughts and emotions without reservations.

We have enabled this through The Wonder Capsule, a comprehensive 50+ hour training material that introduces various forms of English writing to students all over the country, providing them with a cathartic platform to share their inner fears and feelings.

Expanding Our Reach

I’m pleased to share that I have recently gotten the incredible opportunity to intern with the circularity company Karo Sambhav, which focuses on promoting environmental sustainability through innovative waste management solutions. I hope to advance my understanding of environmental sustainability and circularity, and maybe even incorporate these principles into my work with Speak Up! Act Now!.

First Day as an Intern

Reflection

On a personal level this past year, I’ve faced emotional trauma, witnessing close family members battle severe health issues. These experiences have taken a toll on my mental and emotional well-being, but they have also instilled a desire to help others; I try to use my story to connect with and inspire others facing similar challenges.

moving, or immovable?
still, or lost in the silence of stillness?
uncaring, or willful ignorance?
lost of persistent negligence?

moving not immovable;
falling raindrops, and blaring traffic lights,
symphony of soundless chaos, hands stuffed in worn-down pockets,
heavy breaths, warm coffee (yet it’s cold) and all I get is indignant looks…

moving still immovable,
pleas falling on silent ears, headphones on, headstrong in a maze of cars,
swift steps, seemingly soft on the pavement – the fear of being carried off into some guy’s basement,
pulling the jacket sides closer, staring up at the graying sky, scurrying faster.

(TW: IMPLIED SUICIDE)

i’m in Arizona, dreaming about who I used to be,

lonely dreamer; searching for something worth fighting for; in this economy,

depressing feelings; urging me to go yell at the world; demanding to be heard, to have a vote,

climactic moments; standing here at the cliff; hoping to hear the โ€˜donโ€™tโ€™ and the rights returned,

plunging heat; crushing my soul and giving me more reasons why; not solutions in sight,

impatient headstrong; beautiful visions pulling me to the edge; world without boundaries; love is just you (all) and me,

anxious tears; falling wind; life monitor flatlines; wishing for better healthcare; heart rate falls,

smiling face; crushed body; hands folded in a heart; gone to the world โ€“ Peace No Longer Far Apart.

Don’t Tell Yourself You’ll Stay For The Kids

Presenting the latest poem from VALIDATION, life is lyrical irony:

Read Don’t Tell Yourself You’ll Stay For The Kids now, at Anvi’s Thoughts Caught

Donโ€™t tell yourself youโ€™ll stay for the kids,
Itโ€™ll only make them hate every single day until then,
Donโ€™t tell yourself it is how it is,
Itโ€™ll only make you hate what was once true.

(I promise you, I wonโ€™t say: Mommy, why canโ€™t Daddy stay?
I wish I could tell you: Maybe the day we move out should be today.)

I dream at night, how different it would be,
Would we still see each otherโ€™s families?
What would your parents say? What would my sister do?
Would they pity me for you leaving? Even when I pity you.

(Sometimes I think to myself: God, just get separated already!
Itโ€™s clear, even to me, that this lie thatโ€™s your life, isnโ€™t steady.)

I wonder how our daughter would react,
If I told her we should go out and see the world,
Have we not moved on? Have we moved beyond? Have we yet moved out?
Do you think she knows whoโ€™s pulling the strings? Do you think she still has doubts?

(My mother thinks I donโ€™t know; but Iโ€™m falling down; that Iโ€™m playing dumb,
The truth of the matter is, I donโ€™t want to see the world, โ€˜cause Iโ€™m still feeling numb.)

I think itโ€™s time to leave, yes, darling, letโ€™s flee,
He doesnโ€™t care a damn; what I do with my tomorrows,
Maybe I could be Scarlett, and she, Kat; Maybe I could be Lorelai, and she, Rory,
I know this is hurting her, and sheโ€™s feeling tired โ€“ but maybe we could together get over sorrows.

Lodestar Ray

Lodestar* Ray

Life is a journey, people and places meandering to the soulโ€™s destiny,
What good is the adventure, without a navigator to secure your legacy?
Education, a mighty tool, the pinnacle to the veiled success story,
Quality follows, unable to resist the steppingstone to greater glory,

In the land of lush valleys, a time not different from our own,
Uncaring of challenges Cruel Fate sets in the unknown,
A daring, young soul first graces his home, yearning for wonder and wisdom,
Barely seven, in the village school, the epitome of a failing education system,

Acceptance of failure was rather freeing, divulging the opportunity of a revolution,
โ€œNo Rote Learning!โ€ he vowed, a mere boy of fifteen, searching for learningsโ€™ new resolution,
Remaking reality through concepts, productivity, sustainability and contribution, challenging every trope,
Intent to change a society set in stone – Never renouncing his undying hope,

โ€˜Progress over Perfection,โ€ his motto, weighing every decision with this immortal precedent,
An outlier shunned for fear of development, now the countryโ€™s greatest resident,
New ways, vocational paths, success stories for every child to dream, to desire,
With the vow of together, qualitative regrowth, lighting insurgent fires,

He changed the world, that very moment of making a difference,
Choosing his words with care, quality in every emotive sentence,
Speaking of newfound prosperity, eradicating ignorance and poverty,
Education, his guiding light, innovation and quality, his novelty,

Returning to where his journey began, his mission statement writ in stone,
โ€œQuality is not accidental, โ€˜tis the result of educated effort, accomplished never alone,
Not an ever-fixed mark or universal standard, but responsibility that grows each day,
Education highlights your path, should you choose to be the new Lodestar Ray. โ€œ

Falling

Presenting the first poem from VALIDATION, life is lyrical irony:

Read Falling now, at Anvi’s Thoughts Caught

‘falling and failing i can’t keep them apart,
my head is shaking and breaking, and i don’t know where to start,
how can it fall down, because itโ€™s always been there,
how dare you leave me, just like these memories, oh too rare,โ€™

Sometimes I feel like Iโ€™m all up in my head,
โ€œIโ€™m denied all these rights!โ€ is what the old me said,
The new one wonders if she/me ever had them to begin with,

โ€˜Cause Iโ€™ve never met a bridge I couldnโ€™t burn,
Never seen a rabbit hole I didnโ€™t fall down into,
Never heard another curse, thrown at me by this cruel world,
And yet Iโ€™ve never known that fateโ€™s spurn, the worldโ€™s scorn, that sent you (to me),

I look up to see the sea of stars,
And it hasnโ€™t changed, not even since all these wars began,
But now I kind of wish it had,
Because at least someone would have been kind enough to show me their path,

The world tells me – I picked my poison and itโ€™s you,
And yet I never even knew what I was being thrown into,
Iโ€™m always the angel, Iโ€™m always the devil, why donโ€™t you all decide and let me know?
So, at least, I can finally know what Iโ€™m fighting for!
